Tips on setting prices in the Feed Central system

The Feed Central system allows you,
the grower, to nominate your price. Setting prices in the Feed Central system

Here are some tips on getting the best out of this system. It is important to us that your listed price is stated as ”$/tonne ex your farm” as we rarely sell based on $/bale.

Feed Central offers fixed prices via our web pricing system. The web system does NOT encourage buyers to negotiate. To get the best from the Feed Central system, and if you are serious about selling, it is critical that you nominate your best price straight up.

Many growers get the best from this system by starting with a lower price and gradually raising the price. In this case, growers personally set their ideal average price and sell some hay below their target average and some above their target average price.

This reduces risk, improves cash flow and results in a good overall return. This strategy also allows Feed Central to get a quantity of hay sold and on the road quickly. It is amazing how often buyers contact us and re-order the same hay.

Establish a wholesale and retail price Growers who get maximum value from Feed Central often have two pricing strategies – a wholesale price and a retail price. Growers often set their wholesale price at $10 - $30 per tonne below their retail price.

Feed Central is your wholesale customer, as we guarantee payment, organise the sales and contracts, complete all the administration behind the contract, and organise the delivery. All this reduces risk and saves time for you.

To get the best out of Feed Central - quote and charge us your wholesale price.

Update prices and details regularly We encourage you to review and change your prices and listing details regularly. It is critical that you advise Feed Central of any changes to your listing(s) before we have an offer to buy.
